Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon processed to have small, low volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption.

Adsorption is the capacity of a solid particle to attract molecules to its surface. Activated carbon is the most versatile adsorbent because of its large surface area, polymodal microporous structure, high adsorption capacity, and variable surface chemical composition.

As a consequence, there are numerous applications in many different fields where activated carbon is used. Activated carbon can adsorb to a number of organic impurities. When the carbon is saturated with impurities, it is cleaned or reactivated by heating to a high temperature in a special furnace for reuse.

At Daksh Carbons, we offer activated carbon made from pure coconut shells. Our products have high surface area, developed micropores, and small pore resistance. Predominance of micropores provide hardness, mechanical strength, and high resistance to attrition. They are steam activated at a temperature ranging between 900^o C – 1100^o C and then dried under a controlled temperature in a rotary kiln. Volatile components are removed from the carbon-laden material (coconut shells) in the presence of oxygen to increase its adsorption capacity.

This method is considered to be the most environment-friendly way for carbon activation. Our carbons are used in a number of industries and applications to removes contaminants, impurities, and pollutants from air, food and beverages, gold, pharmaceutical products, and water.
